Soul Retrieval: Returning to Wholeness

Steven Garrett, MA, MS

There is a candle in your heart, ready to be kindled. There is a void in your soul, ready to be filled.” – Rumi

Our soul chooses the journey that we are taking in this life, and in previous lives. This can be hard to accept when our journey is so full of challenges and trauma that it may require a lifetime, and all of our available resources, to surmount. Choosing difficulty may be hard to reconcile in our minds yet knowing that we chose all of the curricula in this life gives us agency to change our circumstances for the better. Soul retrieval is a powerful method to take charge and heal the trauma in our lives.

What is a Soul Retrieval? One of the ways that our soul protects itself against trauma is through soul loss. Some trauma can be so challenging that part of our soul decides to leave in order to protect itself. Trauma that leads to soul loss can be physical, such as childhood sexual abuse, malignant cancer or a car accident or it can be purely emotional such as public humiliation, a bad fight, or losing a loved one. As these examples demonstrate, the trauma can be devastating or something in retrospect that seems fairly benign and easily forgotten. It is hard to know why part of the soul chooses to leave during some circumstances and not others.

How do I know if I need a soul retrieval? If you have been referred to me by a therapist, they will have seen signs that may suggest that you need a soul retrieval. You can also refer yourself, by understanding some of the signs, such as:

  • Part of you feels dead or lost
  • You experienced childhood trauma
  • Playfulness, awe and/or joy is missing from your life
  • Depression and associated lethargy
  • Feeling incomplete or stuck
  • Disconnected from yourself and those you love

When I am contacted by a therapist or potential client, I check in with the Akashic Records to see if a soul retrieval is required. If the answer is yes, I will meet with you to perform the ceremony. I will find the soul part and ask if it is ready to join you. I often find myself having to talk to them about where you are in your journey until they feel eager to come back. The fact that you are meeting with me tells the soul part that you are taking control of your life and that you are ready to receive them. During this process, I can share with you their age and some information about the nature of the trauma, what they are wearing or holding, nicknames, favorite activities, what they are doing, their personality and attitude, etc.

Before I bring the soul part back to you, we will work together to create fertile ground for the retrieval. Such work includes breathing, grounding, and inner child work. In order to integrate the soul part that has returned, you need to act as if you were caring for a child. Talk to it and share what is going on with you. Be honest but remember that you are talking with a child. Carve out a quiet space in your life to do this sharing and most importantly to celebrate their return. We will talk about age specific activities that you can do together, like going out for ice cream and activities that you used to like to do at that age. You must give yourself permission to do childlike things in order to rediscover the wonder and playfulness of youth and to keep the soul part from leaving again.

Besides the benefits of bringing back a positive aspect of your childhood, a soul retrieval also serves to bring back vital life force energy. When I am doing a soul retrieval, I always feel the energy of the soul part as I transition it to back from the dimension where it resides and install it into the soul. Energy-sensitive people will feel the new soul part being installed.

Usually, soul parts are lost from childhood trauma in our current lives, but occasionally, these soul parts are lost during past lives. In my life and practice, I have only experienced this twice, so I cannot make generalizations. However, in both cases, the soul part was taken away from the person by a powerful being; a goddess in one case and an indigenous medicine man in another. These soul retrievals are complicated and should only be done by a highly experienced practitioner.

It is empowering to know what options you have for healing. Soul retrieval is a powerful tool. If you feel you that you may benefit from one, please contact me for a free consultation.
