Psychotherapy
A Grounded Path Toward Clarity, Stability, and Meaningful Change
What is Psychotherapy? Is it the same as counselling?
Psychotherapy, therapy, and counselling are often used interchangeably. Often generic counselling services aim to help people manage current issues, such as job loss, grief, and stress. All of these could be part of psychotherapy, and, in addition, may also look at root issues and aim to restructure the psyche and deeper behavioural or psychological patterns, including treating mental health conditions, if applicable.
Sessions with Vivananda Gaia (formerly Christina Clapperton), MEd, MSW, RSW are tailored to your unique history, needs, and nervous system – supporting change that is not only understood, but felt and lived.
This work addresses a wide range of concerns, including:
- anxiety and depression
- trauma and (C)PTSD
- relational and attachment patterns
- addictions
- emotional dysregulation and persistent internal conflict
Additional experience includes working with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, dissociation (including DID), OCD, phobias, as well as neuro-affirmative support for Autism and ADHD.
Sessions may consider underlying patterns that shape how you feel, respond, and relate – many of which operate outside of conscious awareness.
Sessions may include:
- reflective conversation
- somatic (body-based) awareness
- experiential processes
This allows you to begin noticing the rhythms within your system:
- how activation rises and settles
- how attention moves or becomes fixed
- how emotional patterns repeat or resolve
Rather than pushing for change, the work supports your system in finding a more natural rhythm where responses become less reactive and more aligned with what is actually present.
Working at Multiple Layers
While grounded in evidence-based practice, this work also recognizes that not all patterns are easily explained through present circumstances alone. For some, healing includes working with patterns that feel older than this lifetime. Exploring deeper or long-standing imprints is approached with care, grounding, and respect for both psychological and spiritual dimensions.
Key Aspects of Psychotherapy Services:
Clarity Through Understanding: We work collaboratively to explore the patterns shaping your thoughts, emotions, and responses. As underlying dynamics become clearer, what once felt confusing or overwhelming begins to make more sense, creating the conditions for meaningful change.
Improved Functioning and Life Alignment: As internal patterns begin to reorganize, day-to-day life often becomes more manageable. Decision-making, relationships, and responsibilities can feel less effortful, allowing you to engage with your life in a way that feels more aligned and intentional.
Support for Anxiety and Mood Patterns: If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, or emotional instability, sessions focus on helping your system stabilize. Beyond symptom management, we work with the underlying processes that drive these patterns, supporting a more sustainable sense of balance and ease.
Emotional Regulation and Nervous System Support: You will learn practical, body-based skills to work with stress, overwhelm, and reactivity. These approaches help you recognize early shifts in your system and respond in ways that support stability, rather than becoming caught in familiar cycles.
